Who was Carol Stuart?

Carol Stuart was born on March 26, 1959, in Boston, Massachusetts. She married Charles Stuart in 1985 after dating for four years.

The newlyweds lived in Reading, Massachusetts, a suburb north of Boston.

She was working as a tax attorney, while her husband was the general manager for a fur company.

In 1989, the couple was expecting a son and were last seen leaving a birthing class together before Carol's demise.

On October 23, 1989, Stuart called the police from his car phone and said that he and his wife had been shot by a Black man in a tracksuit.

What happened to Carol Stuart?

Carol was shot in the head and was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Her husband was bleeding out after being shot in the gut.

Carol gave birth to a baby boy named Christopher via C-section, shortly before her passing. She died hours after being shot.

Christopher died 17 days later and both deaths were ruled a homicide.

Multiple Black men were brought into police custody and arrested because of Stuart's allegations.

On January 3, 1990, Stuart's brother Matthew Stuart confessed to the police that he and his brother had planned an insurance scam.

The younger Stuart was supposed to rob the couple, but when he arrived his brother had already shot Carol.

Stuart had also shot himself in the abdomen and enlisted his brother for help in getting rid of the gun and Carol's jewelry.
