'Amazing Spider-Man's' Movie J. Jonah Jameson Debuts on Tumblr
One of the most surprising absences from 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man was the utter lack of Daily Bugle editor J. Jonah Jameson. Perhaps it was as simple as not being able to come up with anyone who could top J.K. Simmons‘ performance in the role throughout the Sam Raimi series. Nonetheless, he was missed.
Although no Jameson appearance has been announced for this summer’s Amazing Spider-Man 2, he’s not been entirely forgotten in this rebooted movie-verse. In fact, wherever this new Jonah is, we can be comforted with the fact that he’s still doing what he likes to do best: complaining about Spider-Man.
STORY: Marvel Returns ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ to ‘Year One’
In a post on the movie’s Daily Bugle Tumblr, Jameson rants about the damage done to New York City as the result of Spider-Man’s heroics. “Did anyone consider that during Spider-Man’s prolonged pursuit and apprehension of Schultz, a city bus, a police car, two streetlights, a fire hydrant and 20 feet of sidewalk were destroyed?” he writes. “And who’s paying for Spider-Man’s actions? I am. You are. And every other taxpayer in this city.”
We can only hope that Jameson eventually appears in the new movie universe as curmudgeonly as this short editorial paints him, if only because the idea of a J. Jonah Jameson: Social Crusader spinoff is something that I very, very much would dearly love to see. Simmons isn’t too busy to pencil in a few extra movies, is he…?
